Open Innovation: A Rising Tide

Prof. von Hippel is championing the concepts for several years now, and MIT Center for innovation is leading the pack. Today, this odd-ball idea is front and center in many serious innovation R&D centers. The recent Picmet convention at Portland, OR, was a place where open innovation was discussed with great passion, and expectations. Books are flooding the market, scholarly research is coming through, companies are inching towards it, even the government (NASA) is experimenting with the potential of this bold concept. Case Western Innovation Appraisal group has launched an interactive Energy-Solution web-site, where the public is contributing solution ideas to the energy challenge. It is still possible that the concept will turn out to be short lived phase, but indications are otherwise. Open Innovation
